News broke last week of a wide-reaching security vulnerability known as the Heartbleed bug. Heartbleed affects OpenSSL, which is used by the majority of web-based programs (like Prezi, Pinterest, Netflix, YouTube, Facebook, Yahoo, and others) to securely send data including usernames and passwords. This bug can compromise that data exchange and allow others to gain access to your username, password, and site activity for any online accounts you have that were affected. Our school accounts, including Google Apps email/education accounts ([email protected]) and STI were not affected.
However, we all use other web-based programs both professionally and personally that may have been affected. To take proper measures, change your password for any online sites that were affected.
